The global theatrical release of Pa Ranjith’s film “Thangalaan” featuring Vikram, has been officially announced for April. The movie, set against the early 19th-century mining backdrop, was initially slated for a January 26 release. Produced by Studio Green’s K E Gnanavel Raja, “Thangalaan” stars Malavika Mohanan, Parvathy Thiruvothu, and Hollywood actor Daniel Caltagirone.
The makers unveiled the teaser for “Thangalaan,” the highly awaited collaboration between actor Vikram and director Pa Ranjith. The film will be released on January 26, 2024, in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam. “Thangalaan” was delayed for film festival screenings before its theatrical release, originally planned for Republic Day. The new release date is set for April 2024 in cinemas.
The film’s music is composed by GV Prakash. Vikram’s most recent appearance was in Mani Ratnam’sw epic “Ponniyin Selvan II,” while Pa Ranjith, the director, previously helmed the romantic musical drama “Natchathiram Nagargiradhu.” Additionally, he is gearing up to direct a sequel to his sports drama “Sarpatta Parambarai.”

Chiyaan Vikram’s fans are growing increasingly anxious as the persistent and repeated delays are perceived to have a potential negative impact on the film’s box office success. Despite initial excitement sparked by official posters and a highly awaited teaser on social media, the diminished pre-release buzz for “Thangalaan” is attributed to the scarcity of regular updates.
The upcoming Parliamentary elections in April present a fresh challenge. Concerns among the makers revolve around the possibility of intense campaigning and election fervour overshadowing the film’s release. Unconfirmed reports indicate that the team is contemplating a potential delay until after the 2024 elections, possibly resulting in the historical action drama hitting theatres in June or July of 2024. However, an official confirmation is still pending.
