Erode in Tamilnadu is famous for both its vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. Erode is one of the business hubs of Tamil Nadu, many people from all over India come here and one can find different types of Indian foods in the hotels of  Erode district . However, Japan Chicken as the name suggests has nothing to do with Japan. After an interview with Director Vignesh Sivan, Japan Chicken from the Erode Amman Mess has fascinated many foodies. He mentioned that he and his wife Nayanthara would visit this place very often just for this scrumptious dish. Right then, Japan Chicken became a trend all across Tamilnadu, especially in parts of Erode.

Japan Chicken is a culinary symphony of flavors with a decadent fried chicken dish, luxuriously bathed in a velvety white creamy cashew milk sauce. Each piece of golden-brown chicken is meticulously coated in this rich, luscious sauce, ensuring one mouthwatering bite at a time. Ingredients for Japan Chicken.

  • 1 tbsp Butter
  • 10 cloves Garlic chopped
  • 5 Green chillies slit
  • 2 cups Milk
  • ¼ cup Cashew Powder
  • Salt to taste
  • ½ tsp Sugar
  • 1 tsp White pepper powder
  • 500 grams Chicken (preferably boneless)
  • 2 tbsp All Purpose flour 
  • 4 tbsp Cornflour

Fried Chicken

Place chicken in a bowl, season with salt and white pepper powder, and mix thoroughly. Mix cornflour, maida, and a splash of water, stirring until a thick batter forms. Heat oil for deep frying, carefully drop the chicken into the hot oil and fry until golden brown (approximately 5 to 6 mins). Drain on paper towels and set aside. and that’s how you make golden fried chicken!

Cashew Sauce

Melt butter in a pan over medium heat. Saute garlic briefly, allowing its aroma to infuse the butter. Introduce the green chilies, stirring to combine. Pour in a creamy symphony of milk, cashew powder, and a dash of salt, sugar, and white pepper. Blend these exquisite ingredients, creating a velvety sauce. The harmonious fusion of garlic and green chilies enhances the richness of this delightful sauce.

Final touch to get Japan Chicken

As you introduce the golden fried chicken into the pan, ensure that each piece is generously coated in the luscious sauce. Let the chicken simmer and absorb the flavors.
